The Covenant provides many opportunities where our members' skills and talents can be offered in God's service not only for the church, but also to the community. If you have a question or wish to become involved, please contact our volunteer coordinator at 216.421.0482. Opportunities include:

  • Worship - Within our Sunday services, members volunteer in numerous areas: usher, greeter, lay worship leader, choir/handbell choir, and other music programs. Members also assist outside the worship service by assembling a weekly church bulletin and serving on the Worship and Music Committee.

  • Christian Education - On Sunday, volunteers can be found helping out with our Covenant youth - newborn through high school. Age appropriate activities are planned and incorporated into weekly lesson plans following Scripture readings. Our Christian Education area also has opportunities to serve on the Adult Christian Education, Christian Education or Library Committees.

  • Community Service - The Church of the Covenant is an active and involved congregation. On any given day, you can find members tutoring school age children, working on a Habitat for Humanity project, preparing a hot meal or packing boxes of food for the homeless. Members also assist at The Free Clinic and at New Life Community. The Cache enables members to donate gently-used clothing and other items to be resold at the church to area members. Members can also share their voices on our Outreach and Justice Committees.

  • Building and Finance - Our beautiful structure, built in 1911 and expanded in the 1970's, serves as a place of worship as well as a meeting place for over 40 organizations. Members oversee its use by serving on the Building/Grounds or Housekeeping Committees. Members with an interest in planning for the church's future serve on the Special Gifts/Endowment or Investment/Audit Committees.

  • Caring for One Another - Covenant parishioners call upon or deliver floral arrangements to those convalescing at home or in hospitals. Parishioners can become Stephen Ministers. Volunteers sponsor new members to help them get aquainted with the congregation. Serving weekly coffee hours after worship, special receptions for memorial services and concerts, or Thursday night suppers allow members to stay involved in many ways.

  • Reaching out to the Community - Our members tape and edit the weekly worship service for distribution, publish a bi-monthly Church publication, The Covenant News, maintain our website, and help answer the church phone during Sunday services.

  • Building the Covenant Community - The Covenant offers four weekly Bible study classes at the church, serves community dinners for college students, and has monthly family gatherings.

  • Service as a Church Officer - The leaders of our congregation (Elders, Deacons and Trustees) are elected by and from our congregation. The Trustees are responsible for maintaining our building  and dealing with the church's financial matters. The Session concentrates on governmental issues involving our church and community, while the Deacons care for the members of this church.
